Blue Tit ( Cyanistes caeruleus )
A miserable day weatherwise, blowing the proverbial hooley and raining. As it seems a while since I did a desperation bird shot so I took some of the Blue Tit as a precaution.
Ringing has shown that in a day many dozens of Blue Tits pass through a garden during a day in winter. Sometimes this is very noticeable as mixed flocks of small birds forage together. So you may look out at one time and see Blue, Great, and Coal Tits. Later you look and see Blue, Great, and Long-Tailed Tits, this is another foraging party.
In the evening we had a meeting of the local wildlife trust support group where we were given an interesting talk on Bats by the Secretary of Cumberland Bat Group. In case you are wondering about the title Cumberland when that county ceased to exist back in the 70s recording of things natural e.g. plants, bats birds, etc still used the old county areas so modern results can be compared to historic results
