Aspiring To Be A Steeple Chaser

Today was yet another overcast and unremittingly grey day. I needed to get out for a breath of fresh air and a change of scenery so I headed over to Rochester for a walk and to get today's image for blip.
The town itself was quiet when I arrived and looked a bit despondent in the gloom just as the rain began to fall again but I was determined to press on until I'd got my shot for the day.
This shot is of of the outer bailey wall of Rochester castle with a characterful gatehouse built into it with two of the spires of the nearby cathedral in the background. I had to walk up and down several times chasing the most satisfying angle for my image.
I've always been confused by the difference between a steeple and a spire. Apparently the steeple is the tower section of a church, or in this case a cathedral, and the spire is the steeply pointed pyramidal or conical part at the top. I can now add the acquiring of architectural knowledge to the many benefits of being a blipper!
The extra is an image of the loomingly powerful presence of the castle itself, which was particularly stark on such a murkily dismal day.
