Sailboat Races in the Jardins de Luxembourg
We had a lazy, late morning because we were tired after our day of travel and made plans to take a long, afternoon walk through the city. We packed a picnic and went out to la Tour Eiffel to the park by the Trocadero to have lunch. From there we wandered down to the main lawn in front of the Eiffel Tower and made our way past UNESCO and Les Invalides where there was a huge manifestation protesting against the recent law legalizing gay marriage in France. We walked through the Luxembourg Gardens after checking out the protest, where I took this photo of a little sailboat race taking place in one of the fountains. We moseyed back toward the Latin Quarter and stopped in Sugarplum Cake Shop, a frequent hangout of English expats in Paris, and had iced-teas and lemonades before going home to rest for a couple of hours before dinner. We decided we would have one dinner out in Paris, and we went out to a Lebanese Restaurant that was reviewed in a guidebook our host had in his apartment. We had WONDERFUL Lebanese food, including kibbe naye that was authentic and very delicious. Nancy had some practice ordering in French and our waiter was very pleased with her good efforts! After dinner, we went out for gelato in the Latin Quarter and home to bed.
