The Last Rose of Summer

There are still a few flowers blooming in the front garden (see one of them in the extra photo), but this rose, the last bloom on the bush that grows on the backyard arbor, is definitely on its way out. 

In the fraught atmosphere of our national election day, there has been some good news from two states on the east coast of United States: Maryland has elected its first Black governor, Wes Moore, and Massachusetts has elected Maura Healey, its first woman governor and the nation's first openly lesbian governor.

That said, I'm not expecting much good news in tomorrow morning's newspaper...
