European Bison

Back to mother-in-law's place via our friends in Palamuse. They took us to a zoo park nearby. Though small, there were some interesting animals, including bear (in the extra) and wolf, and many deer species. The lynx was hiding, as were some of the smaller animals, but the European bisons were not. It would have been hard for them though in their open pen.

The European bison a.k.a. wisent was extinct in the nature for several decades from 1920's on, surviving in zoos, but it has been reintroduced to nature in many countries and is no longer considered endangered. It must still be one of the rarest animals I have ever seen though.
