Bit of a bodge repair to a lens surround with built-in LED lighting for an Epson document presenter type piece of equipment that was badly damaged. The IT folk found a collection of bits in the case that hadn't been used since before the first coronavirus lockdown, so have no idea how it happened. May have been whilst it was in storage, if something heavy was placed on top of its case.
First stage was to roughly glue the big bits back together, with a little fusing of the cracks with a fine soldering iron to better hold it in the correct shape whilst in sets. That wouldn't be strong enough, and there a load of wee bits around where three of the four fixing screws were that can't be stuck back, so the second stage, as here is to apply a load of epoxy type adhesive, with the Blutack (plasticine would be better) to keep the epoxy off the external/visible bits. May need another layer after this sets firmly over the weekend, and then some trimming and shaping of excess bits to clean it up. Fingers crossed.
If that doesn't work, then I could have a go at doing a scale drawing of it and then producing a replacement via 3D printer. Hate to think what a genuine replacement would cost, if obtainable. Could also make something from clear acrylic sheeting. Good to have options.
