Guildhall

It was quite misty this morning,  I suspect our area with the river and canal would be prone to morning mists, especially in November! There was a threat of rain in the forecast too.  So we stayed in this morning, seeing to the weekly Tesco delivery and messing about on the computer (me).

After lunch it had cleared up a little so we ventured out for a coffee at Spin the Square Circle, though Ann had green tea as she doesn't like the coffee there.  We walked down to the river on our way home passing the very ornate Guildhall on High Street.

Apparently there was a timber framed meeting place for merchants on the site from 1227 and in 1717 it was decided they needed something a bit grander and the current building was constructed, opening in 1723.  The front of the building has the statues of King Charles I and King Charles II in niches either side of the door, and Queen Anne in pride of place at the front.  (Info from Wikipedia).

The festive lights are starting to be prepared in the city centre, there are baubles in the tree on the left.
