Moorland walk
I had a lovely moorland walk today - actually got a little sunburned (silly!).
This is the Doctor's Gate footpath from old Glossop that goes over the top of the Snake Pass Towards Sheffield and on the southern edge of Bleaklow.
In 2 and half hours I saw no other person until I met a party of walkers as I was almost back to Mossy lea farm.
Enjoyed taking some photos, recording some sounds and felt a long way from anywhere.
A saw a few butterflies including a moorland specialist the Green hairstreak.
I was also lucky to see most of the moorland birds including a male Whinchat singing away so loudly it couldn't be ignored I did record its song but the recording was interrupted by 2 noisy Canada geese.
The real treat was a singing Ring Ouzel only a few notes before it spotted me and changed to alarm calls but something rather rare - lucky to see and hear. I told the group of walkers but couldn't tell if any of them were interested or understood what I was telling them about. The all looked so highly kitted out that I suspect their day was all about how many miles they were going to walk - probably didn't know a Red Grouse from a Little Red Rooster.
I hope I'm wrong and they did hear the song and a least one of them stood in awe and wonder of such a rarely seen and heard event.
