Erskineville History Walk
The local ALP branch organises a local history walk most years. Today’s theme was political history. The stroll from Green Bans Park took in Lillian Fowler Reserve (named for Newtown’s first woman mayor), 143 Union St (site of an eviction battle during the Great Depression), the site of a second battle in Union St (over 1980s street closures) and the fabulously camp Imperial Hotel. Like all good Labor Party events, it ended at a pub.
My photos of the walk weren’t as interesting as the history, but there’s an extra for the record.
