Someone Else's Hole.
A day down with M&C helping prep their house ahead of builders arriving to knock half of it down. This required the other half being made liveable enough to occupy during this process - finishing that off properly in Phase Two.
Thus, suddenly, the 'soft bits' of floor under the carpet needed attention.
It would seem the floor was made up of random bits of inappropriate grade chipboard. Unclear if it had got wet in parts or had just been the pressure points for furniture, but various points had the consistency and structural integrity of Weetabix.
Liberal application of Extreme Bodging was called for and there are now a selection of patches holding it together (though, on the whole, I'd put more trust in the patches than on the incompetence that comprises the rest of the floor).
It'll do for now. Plan is that Phase One will free up enough reclaimable floorboards to re-floor this room with actual wood rather than Sheetabix.
