Dear O'H dear and The Normals,

We went on another Tiki tour to New Brighton today. We drove by the flatlands which used to be residential areas but were red-zoned after the earthquakes and all of the houses (7400) were demolished and turned into public land. Nature has now started to reclaim the land and it’s quite beautiful but you can still see echos of lost communities - 2 pine trees that would have been the entrance to a drive or a rhododendron in full flower that would have been the the pride of someone’s garden. The unused, vacant roads through this land felt slightly eerie and post-apocalyptic but they are used for cycling and walking and there are future regeneration plans.

I have also decided that the Kiwi weather forecasters are FILTHY liars! Today’s high was meant to be 24°C but the temperature reached 32°C. There may have been lots of “WTF” from me and laughter from LTJ with some “It’s an Old Man Nor-West” explanation for the feeling that I was sitting in an air fryer!
