More work in progress
I am unexpectedly doing a short Printmaking course at NMIT. I had enrolled a couple of times before, two or three years ago, but the course was cancelled due to low numbers. So they rang me out of the blue and asked if I still wanted to do it, as it was going ahead this time no matter what.
One thing I really wanted to do was a reduction lino print, as I have only done one colour prints before. A reduction print is where you cut a bit more away for each colour. So, you better make sure you do enough prints to start with, as you can never print the first colour again! This is the first cut, taken early this morning in low light (hence the strong anglepoise lighting from one side) before I went off to college to print the first colour. All that has been cut away here will remain white. Now I will cut some more lino away before next Tuesday, so that I can print the second colour from the lino (it is a bit confusing, which is why I have shied away from doing one before!)
The only reason this is a butterfly print is that I was completely unprepared for the first class, being such short notice, so I had to come up with an idea on the spot and the butterfly photo on my phone inspired me. I usually put a lot more thought into my work! (too much maybe, as I often think about an idea for so long that I eventually go off it and have to come up with another one!)
