Autumn at Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens

When we were at the Stirling Autumn Garden Festival on Sunday we received a brochure from the Friends of the Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens. I thought at the time it was long overdue to do another blip from there, and today was the day.

Here in the Adelaide Hills and especially in the Mt. Lofty Ranges we get stunning autumn colour each year. Although we love our own native trees, we also love and appreciate exotics as we call them, being European trees.

This very special place - the Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens - is an offshoot to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens down in the centre of the city. This garden in the hills was started by Noel Lothian over 50 years ago and is a testament to his vision.

In the upper section it has rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, and other cool climate trees and shrubs. In the lower section there is a tremendous mix of different trees and colour. The lake makes a perfect backdrop for the autumn colours in this beautiful lower garden.
