‘Tickled Pink’

This is one of the items in a great exhibition at the Textile Museum, near London Bridge, of quilts and other items designed by Kaffe Fassett as well as works inspired by him from international quilt makers. The fabric patterns he designs are so vibrant and some lovely patterns.
This piece of work was inspired by a woodblock illustration of a rhino by a fifteenth century engraver Albrecht Durer. ( I looked this up and have added a copy of this in extras ) The  American designer and maker Susan Carlson liked the bright pink  and orange fabrics and used these plus some others to make the quilt. You can not really see all the detail and the intricate stitching, some by machine and some by hand, in the photograph. It was fascinating to look at close up and see the hundreds of hours of work it involved.
I really enjoyed the exhibition which had such a variety on display and good explanations and a slide show of over 200 of his designs, many are based on flowers in bright colours. Even the floor was  lovely…see extra. I have several friends who sew or quilt and I may go again with one of them.

I haven’t been up to London much since the pandemic and found it very crowded on the tube at 4.30/5. At Bond Street I decided to go to look at the Elizabeth Line station…it is a very very very long walk from the Jubilee line platform!
Afterwards I went to meet my husband and a friend for a nice Italian meal in Wigmore Street. I was underwhelmed by the lights on  Oxford Street which are sort of icicles hanging down.

Not nice walking home from the station, wet and dark!
