Out On The Tiles
A friend has had some building work done to create a home office. In the corner of the original room was a fireplace, and this had been left in place. She had some decorative tiles and asked if I would create a hearth from them. This was not a totally random request as I had done something similar in another room and had also done some tiling in her kitchen - though it has been a while since I picked up a trowel!
Didn’t take long to get back into it though, and once I’d worked out where to make the cuts and what spacing to use, the tiles all went down quite smoothly. I’m going to leave it for a good 48 hours now before going back to do the grouting, and I’ll hope that everything is fully dry and set before the carpet fitter goes in the day after.
It wasn’t totally plain sailing though. In backing my car onto the drive, I caught the door on a low rock. Not dented, but there was a nasty looking scratch. A going over with T-Cut improved things, but I still think a visit to the body shop will be required at some point. And the first cut I did ended up with a sharp sliver of tile stuck in my thumb, resulting in a liberal sprinkling of blood over tiles and tools before a plaster was applied.
Hopefully the grouting will be somewhat less hazardous. Though I will probably park on the road next time so as not to tempt fate…
