Common Hawker

Having finished all our work yesterday, we had a free day - a holiday in the southern Lake District in warm sunshine, visiting three SSSIs - Humphrey Head, Roudsea Wood and Foulshaw Moss. A real busman's holiday with a plethora of exciting species, the highlights of which were -

Hoary Rockrose
Lancastrian Whitebeam
Spiked Speedwell
Sea Spleenwort
Bog Rosemary
Great Yellow-sedge
Black Darter
and of course this Common Hawker, caught in flight as it was hunting over the bog pools.

And so many wonderful views of the saltmarsh and mud flats of Morecombe Bay, the raised mires of Roudsea and Foulshaw and the limestone uplands of Hutton Roof Crags, White Scar and Arnside Knott. So very hard to choose just one image from the 142 that made it onto the computer!
