The Well Party

A seriously big day well hunting on the Dingle Peninsula. First we rendezvoused with three others in Supervalu carpark - a professor a the Sacred Heart University in Dingle, a film producer and a heritage enthusiast. Then headed off to a layby in Lispole where we picked up M who lead us in convoy to J and E's farm. Irish was the predominant language and wells the predominant conversation! The elusive well was Tobar na gCeann,  Well of the Heads where heads of the enemies had reputedly been washed after a big battle nearby. The well was in a copse and had sort of disappeared but no bother. As you can see, conditions were interesting but they did improve as the day went on.  We then went off in pursuit of another well of the same name on the land of a bachelor farmer. He only allowed one person in his tractor and went off with B, who reported back that the experience had been very interesting and there was a well! The next well was exceptionally difficult to find, in dense undergrowth and only B and I went, though Himself fortunately leant B His stick. Brambles were slashed, rickety fences were negotiated and one of us fell on their arse in the very peaty and cold stream - a warning from St Gobnait for due humility before she revealed the well! The well itself was a minute trickle of water coming into the stream. We were both thrilled and both thrilled that the other person was thrilled! Not everyone would have been.
A regroup for coffee - I had to sit on the inside of my mac I was so filthy - and a great chat all round. Two more well on the agenda in the afternoon, one very elusive but still there under the brambles and the last one in spectacular situation on the side of a mountain - a fresh water spring emerging from under a rock. Just look at those colours. The descent was treacherous and a length of blue baling twine had been thoughtfully strung on some very rickety posts to help you down. 
Boy, we were wrecked by the evening and staggered out and had the most delicious pizzas then more  or less collapsed!
