Maxwellston Hill

We decided to head for the better weather today and went to South Ayrshire for our walk.
We'd found a walk that takes you up to Maxwellston Hill, site of a Pictish fort, and yet another place where Robert the Bruce (one of the family) hid after a battle.
After a hasty trip to get new walking boots for all of us, we set off from Dailly and headed up the hill.
It was a decent climb up through some mud and gorse, and then lots of joyful bogs. Our new boots were thoroughly put through their paces and not convinced how well they lasted, but we'll see.
It was fantastic to be out and clambering about and not seeing anyone for hours. The sheep seemed to be ok with us trampsing through their land, and Gonzo didn't seem to be bothered by them.
We reached the top just as the clouds started to break. It was a shame it wasn't clearer as the views from the top are great, and you can see why the put the fort there as you can see up and down the coast as well as inland to the Galloway forest.
This shot was taken on the way down as Thom was deciding that he should be Asterix and Rob should be Obelix. Gonzo is obviously Dogmatix.
I've put a couple of other photos up on my blipfolio.
I'm very proud of my wee boy as he bounced and clambered his way up and down without too much effort. We're hoping this is the start of many more walks to come.
Feeling nicely tired and going to have a refreshing cider this evening.
