Doge's Palace, Glasgow

Popularly and locally known as the Doge's Palace, this elaborate factory building was actually Templeton's Carpet Factory. The only way that the local inhabitants would allow its construction was by making it appear in keeping with their own grand houses, nearby. In fact, it was occupied before completion, and part-collapsed on 1st. November 1889, killing 29 women workers. I was reminded of this when learning recently of the Dhaka disaster ... seems little changes in the textile industry.
