Friday
Paula organised a Ghost Walk led by local historian, John Girvan.
We were a gruesome lot in Devizes of old. Besides all the ghost stories, John gave us lots of history and we visited 2 execution sites (a third one being the Victorian gallows close to our home)
I now know we used to set fire to people in the middle of what is now the roundabout outside the White Bear on Monday Market Street and hang others, slowly by asphyxiation, at a spot along Hillworth road.
My short cut to Lucy runs behind St John's Church, pass the Castle and across the old deer park. Now I know this was once the route poor prisoners were marched to their execution.
Two hours well spent.
We planned a drink in The White Bear afterwards but we were too many and the WB too packed. So it was Wetherspoons instead .
As expected, Clive hasn't felt 100% following his jab yesterday. After a day of dozing, he felt well enough to come out which was great because he is very entertaining and good company.
