Odd One Out?
One of the joys of raising bulbs from seed is that you often get some variations from 'the norm'. Today's blip is an example. Crocus tournefortii. It's usually pale blue, as in this recent blip, so this form which is essentially white and with noticeable dark veins, is quite different. In the wild the species can grow alongside other species, Crocus boryi and Crocus laevigatus and natural hybrids can occur, particularly with Crocus boryi which is white, very rarely with veins on the outside. Perhaps this is a hybrid too although in this case it would be a hybrid that's occurred in cultivation. There are lots of other seedlings in this pot from 2020. I'll have to wait and see how they turn out, the only other one to flower this year was blue.
A quiet day off. Much needed. I weeded all my pots - weed seed blows in. I watered a lot of the greenhouse pots and the sand plunge and coo-ed over the flowers old and new. Some more seeds were also planted. Meg's had a walk, Tilda came too and Mum and Chris joined the rest of us for a slow-cooker tea of sausage casserole. Jamie had made buns for afters. Nice day :-)
