Autumn woodland walk
Last day, very wet,
walked a soggy reservoir
and final woodland.
Managed quite a lot today despite it being a proper deluge this morning. We decided to still try to get to the reservoir for a walk. It was maybe a dubious call, we got completely drenched and there was very little wildlife... worse still I couldn't take my camera as it has a history of completely dying when I get it anywhere near moisture. After lunch we went to Burton Agnes, a country estate that dates back to Norman times, although the main house (see extras) was built around 1600. It was very beautiful and most importantly, the weather was dry, so I could take my camera :-D I was supremely happy with this statue (in extras) and his foppish pose, especially since there was a witch so perfectly placed in the background!! We did their halloween trail which covered the woodland walk (found mushrooms - see photo), the walled garden and a maze which Ben was very giddy about. Then we went for coffee and cake. Ben and I shared a Bakewell slice which he says was the highlight of his day. That seems fair!
Home tomorrow so there's all the packing up to be done in the morning but in fairness, if this is the weather we're facing, I'm happy to be done. We were very lucky at the beginning of the week, so no complaints :-)
Also we've promised ourselves a take away curry for tea when we get home, so that's a happy positive!
