Diary of an Edinburgher

Jekyll and Hyde?

JR went for her Covid jab at last. Archie and I walked over to the bus stop with her, and these autumn trees looked splendid. And she was lucky - there was no queue, because all the old folk have been done.

The course of pills we tried Archie on last week does not seem to have had the desired effect of stopping his wee ‘fits’. Most nights he can’t settle to sleep, so he trots around the flat sniffing the air, scratching the rugs, giving the occasional ‘woof’. This keeps me awake, as I’m always listening out for anything more drastic. Last night I put his lead on, and brought him to bed. I did so because if he doesn’t want to stay he’ll just run off. However, this time he settled down in half an hour or so, made no attempt to run off, and then slept all night. Phew!

Should we put him on a daily pill for the rest of his life, which will affect his kidneys (or was it his liver?) and goodness knows what else, or should we hang in there and hope for fairly peaceful nights most of the time, with the odd hectic night…

The trouble is, we can’t expect other people to deal with such behaviour, and we have a friend coming to look after him while we go on holiday in a couple of weeks…

During the day, he’s his normal sweet, playful, affectionate self. Let’s see what happens tonight…
