A Little Less Free Ranging From Now On
I was really upset as not long after we got back from holiday my speckled chicken went missing. We searched everywhere and when last week there was a vicious tractor cutting of the hedgerows at the bottom of the garden, I feared the worse.
This morning I heard a clucking and looking for my black rock hen, I found her halfway up a tree…when I looked closer, underneath her and really ensconced in the ivy was my speckled hen, looking fit and well and happily sat on a nest of 21 eggs! The other hens had obviously also been laying in her nest and there was I was thinking they had stopped laying early for winter!
I have now ordered a new fully enclosed chicken run as she was very lucky not to have been found by a fox…my girls will have to be a little less free ranging from now on.
