A night at A and E.

I have had a pain in my upper abdomen for 5 days so went to the gp who did a blood test and sent me for an ultrasound I felt a bit better but she told me to head down to A AND E. Straight away. I had indicators of possible sepsis and she wanted me to go on iv antibiotics straight away.
It was a night of disasters. No beds. I waited for one till midnight for one in a and e. They couldn’t administer inter virals until I had a better. Yes. I had a bed. No both docs had gone home. The poor nurse at last found someone to write a prescription. It was 2am.
Then the room was full of screamers amidst a tannoy.
Then I found out I was nil by mouth

Finally at 9:30 they agreed I could eat. The first reaction was you are going home. Then we need to monitor you eating.

Bring me something I said. The blip was all they could find. I hadn’t eaten since lunchtime yesterday
