Holy Island, Batman!
With surprisingly little grumbling, we were up and out early doors this morning to ensure that we made the most of the tide being out at Lindisfarne.
In years gone by we had made the drive over, but for one reason or another had never quite made it to wander up to the castle. Today that was corrected and it was fantastic! We were so lucky to be on the receiving end of some unseasonal warm sunshine and so wandered up to and around the castle in relative comfort. On the shoreline there were a number of small cairns, so we made added our own to the throng (extra).
That done we wandered back to the island and took in the ruins of the Priory, which even from a distance had enough interesting angles to pique the interest of even the most casual of blippers - even, say one bollicking his offspring mid-shot for winding each other up with a silly game.
We got away in good time and made our way down the coast (so pretty) for a car picnic outside Bamburgh Castle before a stroll on the golden sands. Honestly, it was so warm that you could have got away with shorts and a t-shirt. We watched people surfing falling off planks as we strolled up and down the beach basking in the sunlight.
Children being children, the wee ones obviously went too far into the sea in their game of “avoid the sea” and came out soaking wet. Looking at the extra, you would never have guessed that m’boy was about to go into an epic sulk, would you?!
Fortunately, the rest of the day passed without further bollickings and sulking, so instead they played on the caravan site playgrounds, raided the 2p slot machines once more and finished the day demolishing some carrot cake in front of Bake Off.
