Red Sky in Morning

I was up in time to see dawn (see extras). There was a fair bit of pink in the sky so I checked with meteoblue. They said there was a risk of rain in Snowdonia over the course of the day but a bigger risk tomorrow with increasingly strong winds.  I decided to go.

I drove out through Llangollen to Betws-y-Coed and then on to Capel Curig and finally to the Padarn Country Park. I really enjoyed the drive through the mountains where cloud was clinging on to the tops making for dramatic scenery. Despite the low cloud there were any number of walkers making their way to the base of Snowdon.

Towards the end of the Llanberis Pass the skies lightened a bit and there was some blue sky as I parked along side Llyn Padarn. I walked alongside the lake until I reached the National Slate Museum where I spent an interesting hour and a half. Perhaps my favourite part of the museum was the terrace of four cottages which were moved to the National Slate Museum at Llanberis from Tanygrisiau near Blaenau Ffestiniog isome twenty years ago. Each cottage has been furnished to illustrate a different period in the history of slate mining in North Wales. How hard life was, even as recently as 1969. Hanging up in the 1969 house was a Welsh Tapestry coat exactly as my mother had. Happy Days.

After Llyn Padarn I drove out to the coast and had a quick look at the sea. I thought about visiting Llandudo but I was beginning to tire so made my way back to the cottage.

The main photograph is a skyscape looking south west from LLyn Padarn and in the extras, a view south east with the ruin of Dolbadarn Castle just visible. The swan was a quite cooperative photographic model but his female harem had a hissy fit.
