Signs of the Times

Last week, Summer signage concentrated on the dangers of fire and BBQ's within the forest. This week Winter signage highlights the dangers of standing under trees when the wind blows.
This transformation is not achieved by a miracle but by me!
I pack the green van with screws, clip boards, hand held drills and signs and drive to all the FE forests in the North West to mend fixings and exchange one for the other.
Finding all the entrances, tucked away down side roads is an adventure in itself and the autumnal views  range from vibrant to moody. This week the leaf colour is at its best, although the fells are cloud shrouded.

The more serious side is that the signs reflect the growing concerns of the effects of climate change on the forests. The drought incidents of summer exacerbate wild fires, the storm patterns of winter uproot and snap our trees like match-wood. It will be years before the devastation of last year's incidents can be re-instated, or even whether they can be if storms increase in violence and frequency year on year.
