Salvaged!

This broken Scottish Right of Way Society sign was salvaged by a friend from beside the Military Road from Fort William to Kinlochleven over half a century ago. After her death I rescued it from her house as a reminder of our explorations together and it now graces my garden.

The Military Road was constructed under the direction of General Caulfield between 1749 and 1750. It formed part of a network of roads constructed in the aftermath of the 1745 Jacobite rising - designed to enable Government troops to be moved about the Highlands quickly. It now forms part of the West Highland Way.
