Images and Shadows by Iris Origo

‘Images and Shadows’ is our latest book club book and is about Iris Origo’s life. It is quite a dense read, but still very interesting. She was a very clever, British born biographer, who spent most of her life living in Italy, creating a beautiful estate - La Foce. She was very influenced by Leopardi - an Italian philosopher, poet, essayist, and philologist from the late 1700s. I know nothing about him and have been interested to read some of his work to see what it was that fascinated her about him. This is one of his poems, which I thought was beautiful.
