Old Tunnel
Was round at Tesco's at Broughton Road to pick up supplies for George whose escaped from the Western General but for the moment is still somewhat housebound.
Next to the store is a railway tunnel re-opened about4 years ago for pedestrian use after being closed for a considerable time. The tunnel was constructed in 1847 to enable trains to run from what is now called Waverley Station down to Granton harbour where ferries would transport people and goods up and down the East side of Scotland, and even further afield. Once the the Forth Bridge was brought into use the need for the ferries diminished and the line was closed. The Tunnel was used during WWII as an air raid shelter and later as a mushroom farm.
