After Klimt: A Study in Gold and Blue

When we were dragons . . .

It was a pleasant October day, and my husband and I were hiking over at the former Dry Hollow Camp property. The colors have peaked here, and the recent winds and rains have started to take some of the leaves down. As the poet - that Frosty fellow - said, nothing gold can stay!

We did a hike that was four or five miles, all told, that did not involve much sitting at all, as we hadn't brought our chairs, and had to resort to sitting on logs, old-fashioned style. Along the pathway, I found a big puddle with leaves on top, and I discovered that if I stood in just the right spot, I could capture some great abstracts using the reflection of a flaming orange tree, with blue sky behind it. Klimt would love this!

The vision it gave me was a collection of golds and gems, shining out on an October afternoon. And I thought - the autumn colors remind us of when we were dragons, guarding our hoards of gold and sapphire, the sparkling riches of this day. I hold these treasures of gold and blue, I hold them in my heart; October, I carry you!

My soundtrack song is this one: Neil Young, with Heart of Gold.
