One, Two, Three

After a quick trip in to town for the market and to buy sultanas which seem to be sold out in many shops just now I set to making some Quince and pear Chutney ... the smell was awful.. I mean who likes boiling vinegar.. certainly not me but nearer the end of the simmering it started to smell nicer and actually tasted not bad too... given it now needs to mellow out for a couple of months we won't be opening it till nearer Christmas (oops sorry.. mentioned it!) and I am looking forward to it.  However, we have had a lot of fruit in the house recently.. many windfalls and a few pears which mostly were waiting to pop into this chutney and as the result we have a nasty dose of fruit flies driving us crazy.  Having had the doors open while cooking this vinegary mix for three hours I think every fruit fly in the vicinity is now in the kitchen... urghghgh!! They are infuriating creatures to have an invasion of.  I have had a go round the whole kitchen, washed everything up and having shaken any fruit and tomatoes free of the devils I have crammed it all into the fridge!!  The consequence was my husband tucking into a stew of flies in his glass of wine.. they had all dived into the red... poor fellow.. poured it away before I could stop him.. and keeps picking things out of his mouth.... bleurgh!
Hoping that by tomorrow they will have all packed their bags and left!

Absolutely the best news today.. our youngest has finally got a job she is thrilled about.. starts on Monday. A great confidence boost for her as she doesn't think she is any good at interviews and had been told she was second in line to the job.. the first took a few days to turn their offer down.. so she has accepted.  Six months starting contract with training.. suits her down to the ground (just going to keep my fingers crossed it is what she wants to do once she starts!)
