Diary of an Edinburgher

Covid jab!

When JR came back from the gym, I took a notion to go and get my Covid jab - it’s been hanging over me from a couple of weeks ago when we postponed it. Let’s get it over with!

All the way across town on the bus (they’re busy at that time of day), and yes, there was a very long queue when I got there - longer than last time, with an airport style zig zag queue once you even got inside. Still, it’s done now - hope it’s not too sore, but I’m glad I got them separately.

I was lured into a nearby Costa and had a very nice flat white (and an even nicer - slightly warmed - cinnamon bun). I think I deserved the treat after standing for so long.

I jumped off in town and went to M&S to get a couple of essentials. The Gardens are beginning to look autumny, so I’ll keep an eye on them. But the rest of Princes Street looks pretty awful. Two huge wonderful buildings are boarded up - Jenners and Top Shop. And the tacky, wooden and plastic sheeting ‘Festival Village’ with dangling fairy lights and plastic flowers, is a complete eyesore. AND it completely spoils the wonderful view of the Old Town across the railway. I had to stop at the old brass sign on the pavement indicating a good spot for a photo… Not now it ain’t!

JR took Archie to Midmar Paddock, passing the very busy duck pond.

We’ve been watching the news all evening. What a complete shambles in Westminster. They make the SNP look like a calm, measured, trustworthy political party, sadly.
