Shanty towns in LA

As we’d heard, homelessness in LA,  and apparently more so in San Francisco, has exploded since the pandemic. Partly that California is tolerant and warm so people gravitate here but partly because, in a low tax society,  there is little public money for any kind of support.  The shanty towns that are on many streets vary widely , some are pitiful and squalid, some have small washrooms and loos put up by locals and a few are like this, rather magnificent.  I like that this inhabitant has even got a solar panel amongst their flags of the world (including I note the Saltaire) 

We did a morning of repacking and Alexis came over with good coffee and pastries.  We then set out to do some errands and had lunch at Vikram’s favourite Taco stand (they are another thing that’s mushroomed) before going to a book shop to pick up some maps and some actual books so I don’t have to rely on my kindle.  

In the afternoon we went to the cinema and saw Amsterdam which is a bit of a mess as a film, too long and intermittently entertaining.  It would have been better with a tough edit.  But enjoyable to be in a cinema here.   Out to dinner at Mozza, an old favourite on Melrose.
