Hidden Gems of the Inner City

We were on the bus early this morning and hopped off by the Ngapipi Road/Tamaki Drive intersection, where we met up with some other members of our Eastridge walking group and walked the rest of the way into the city.  We went to Amano first for coffee, then walked to The Guardian building on Queen Street to join the Hidden Gems of the Inner City tour, which was part of the Heritage Festival.  For the next two hours we were guided by a very knowledgeable volunteer, who told us wonderful details about the buildings we visited, took us inside some of them and explained a lot of the history about the buildings.  He knew what types of stone and marble had been used in the construction and why.  It was a most enjoyable and informative tour.  We rounded off the day with a quick lunch at Mojo, then caught a bus home.  I spent the afternoon working and Mr MacD did some gardening, but had to stop when rain arrived.

It was reported in today’s update that Covid cases seem to be on the rise again.

The main blip and the extras show some lovely entrances and various decorative features from some of the buildings.
