Today the weather shifted. The sky filled with clouds, wind whistled through dead tree limbs. The temperature plunged, some rain fell. More is on the way. Showers of yellow leaves fall on dry curls of red soil. We stood and listened, smelled, touched. So this is northern New Mexico. We take it in. Ravens call and respond, hawks soar on thermals, little brown birds panic, hide and warn each other. Preserved in earth we see footprints of deer, rabbits. Streaks whipped by lizard tails. Hunks of white quartz with veins like marble lie scattered against red earth.

All day few people. We walked and saw, heard: no other human beings. Space. Silence. An amazing, ancient kind of silence, at peace with itself. Wind and around that, silence. A rattle of yellow leaves falling into silence. Great stones stand in silent witness.

Then like the weather, the energy here shifted. Hundreds of people arrived just before dinner for workshops that begin tomorrow. Nothing is reliable but change. We leave in the morning. Wifi very unreliable. This is my fourth time trying to upload.
