Leasowe Lighthouse
A and I both love fresh air, walks and history. We had plenty of that today. We were at the top of the Wirral peninsula, looking out on to the Irish Sea, This lighthouse guided ships in to the Mersey estuary so they didn’t run aground on sandbanks. The lighthouse keeper was a woman who took on the job when her husband died, and she lived in this building with her 10 children. It was decommissioned in 1908 after which Mrs Williams opened a tearoom on the site! Fascinating!
