The old village of Tide Mills.

I was at a talk last night, given by a historical geographer, as he described himself. The premise was that the tide came in, filled the millponds which provided the power to grind the corn.  They also had a wind-powered mill, as you see in the picture. This was to power lifting up the bags of corn to get them onto the small train which distributed them.

The site was subsequently used for various things, including the Chailey Heritage Marine Hospital.
