Where are they!

Strichen lake this afternoon.
For some reason, the adult swans have up and left their two young to fend for themselves.
Strange, because they have been such attentive parents over the last five months or so. I think it’s usually the parents who scare off the young when they’re ready to “ fly the nest”.
These two were swimming up and down the lake today but no sign of them taking off, although I did see them flying a short distance last week.
There were five cygnets originally but three were taken by a predator, possibly a dog.
The result is that these two don’t come out of the water to feed.
I hope this has a happy ending but I’m not too sure of that as I suspect they are not ready for independence yet.
I do feel for them.
