Life goes on.
This is a detail from an 18th century stone grave slab that lies in the Holyrood graveyard in Newburgh. The slab is carved with traditional symbols of our certain mortality including a skull and of our much less certain immortality symbolised by the bible.
The lichen that is slowly colonising the stone shows that life in general does go on, at least for the time being.
