If I had written a political thriller, where the newly elected prime minister fired her newly appointed chancellor a month later because he had enacted the policies that she had laid out, I would probably be a laughing stock. Improbable story line, the critics would say; stretching credulity too far, a fairy story. Well it seems that truth really is stranger than fiction. What a mess Truss has got us into.
