Fallen Petals, Fallen Standards

We had a leisurely day returning from Sydney,
It's that time again when Mr isbi feels the need to go window shopping in car yards, so I tagged along.

He is resigned to the fact that it's now virtually impossible to get a smallish car in diesel but can't come to terms with the fact that you can no longer get a spare tyre. 
Most only offer "emergency repair kits" where you fill them up with glue until you can get them replaced (and throw the other away) or "run flats" which allow you to hobble at 80kph for a maximum 200km until you can get a new one (which in the bush may take several days) and throw the other, very expensive, one away.
He just wants a spare which he can put on then hopefully get the old one fixed at a small cost. But were were told that 95% of people these days can't change a tyre. My father would turn in his grave.
That is all very well if you live in the city or western Europe but not much use in rural Australia. 
We did find one model which still has a spot for a space saver tyre if you choose to purchase one (and a jack) separately so that might be the solution when the time comes.
