Vital Sparks

Beautiful sunny day

Buzzard, Kestrel and Peregrine all seen on this walk.
Red Admiral Butterflies at least 5 or 6
Southern Hawker Dragonfly
At least 7 Mistle Thrushes flew overhead.

The photo is one of my regulars but always worth taking in different conditions.  It’s to the spectacular Dowstone Clough on the west side of Bleaklow in the UK Peak District.

The footpath sign shows Glossop left, Doctors Gate path to the Snake Pass and Sheffield side of the Pennines.

13th October 1975 was my first day working for University Manchester as a Computer Operator in what was called the Regional Computer Centre.

A couple of years later I was working in the Faculty of Medicine as a Computer Assistant helping staff and PG students with data analysis and programming. I remember my boss at that time talking about a Cancer related project.  8 of us in the were in the room and he said that the odds were that one of us would develop cancer, so 1 in 8, I think it’s more like 1 in 4 these days as so many people live longer and have more investigations.

Earlier today I had a rather unnerving phone call from a Hospital Consultant. This was confusing as it was an appointment via Text last week that did not mention a department (so I assumed It would be Urology). Until a reminder came yesterday from Gastroenterology. Quite a shock that it was the Consultant who did the Colonoscopy, my immediate  thought was he has found something after biopsy or been passed the MRI scan to look at something. BUT it was just an check that I was OK before an official discharge from his clinic. This was from July and I had thought I was already discharged.

Next call is in a couple of weeks from a Cancer Care Co-ordinator. I always feel I should have said something else when I finish this kind of call so I will plan ahead. At least I know who is calling next time.
