The Basin

The Basin at Kirkwall Harbour, as seen from upstairs in Helgi's. Our Saturday morning dash into town culminated in a brie, bacon and chutney toastie at Helgi's, sitting watching the boats . . . The big ones are the ferries which service the north isles.

Didn't have to cook at all today as in the evening we were invited over by Scratch's owner for roast Orkney lamb. It had been born and raised in the field almost next door to her house, so no food miles at all! She'd marinated it in anchovies, garlic and rosemary. Very tasty indeed! Oh, and I came fourth in a game of scrabble, but I am learning to be a better loser and not take these things too much to heart! Yeah, right!
