Falkland Palace

Today G and M went off on their own to one of the East Neuk fishing villages where they had lunch and we took Abigail to Falkland Palace which we last visited with her 3 years ago.  She had fun looking for the hidden Lego figures in each room and earned a badge at the end of our visit.

She also listened patiently to the guides in some of the rooms explaining the history of this once famous residence of the Kings and Queens of Scotland built by the Stuart kings but transformed by James V in the early 16th century. It was a great favourite of Mary Queen of Scots who loved hunting in the surrounding vast Falkland estate.

Much of the palace has been very well preserved with many royal portraits, magnificent beds and tapestries where photography is not allowed. The blip however was taken in what was once part of the Royal apartments but now no longer has a roof over it Fortunately the sun shone for us and we enjoyed a walk through the beautiful gardens and a chance to look again at the oldest “Royal” tennis court in the world.
