Last week I was gifted an old beam, barn-stored & forgotten for many years. So today I dodged the woodworm bits and made a trinity light, just so I get my head round what to do with the rest. Apparently;
The scientific name of the English Yew is Taxus baccata.
Being evergreen trees, they attract ravens as they nest in February and require shelter.
Yew wood is flexible and a hard softwood. It is great for woodworking & for making musical instruments, although some people can react badly to yew dust.
Yew trees contain taxol which has anti-cancer properties.
The Romans believed these trees grew in hell.
