Autumn at Oakwell.

Up early for our Flu jabs.
Then off shopping for some new everyday winter shoes for MrC. Found some Skechers which were just right. Quite chunky with a good thick sole. Perfect for the winter weather.
Just noticed that they were made in Vietnam.

As it has been another lovely autumn day we went for a walk round Oakwell Hall County Park.
Was surprised how quiet it was. No children at all in the play park.

Nice to see lots of berries and fruits.
In the collage you can see bright orange pyracantha berries, sweet chestnut, red holly berries, apple, fungi, and black grapes.

Oakwell has a few very old apple varieties.
This variety is ‘ Harvey’. Name recorded in 1629. Probably from East Anglia. Long popular in Cambridgeshire, and named after a local benefactor Dr Gabriel Harvey, of Cambridge University. Many old trees remain in Norfolk.
Would have been interesting to taste it, although I think it looks like a cooking apple.

We had a very enjoyable wine tasting last night, and good to catch up with friends again. The wines were all from the Burgundy region of France. We like Chardonnay white wines, but not fans of the red Pinot Noir. However we thoroughly enjoyed all of the red wines. They were from small producers and were the 2018 vintage which was a very good year. So I suppose this made the difference. They weren’t cheap, but decided to treat ourselves, and order a few bottles for Christmas.
