Monday: Tail End

It was a public holiday here today - Indigenous Peoples’ Resistance Day.  It’s on, or around, 12th October to mark the day Christopher Columbus set foot in the Americas and is intended to acknowledge the survival, resistance and struggle of indigenous people in Belize.

We weren’t really able to do very much with the day as there were various weather warnings in place in connection with the hurricane.  There has, in fact, been pretty extensive flooding across the southern part of the country.  We did have a lot of rain, that’s for sure.  This is part of the garden on our compound- as you can see, the path is under water.

We pottered around a bit, I read for a while too.  We played some pool (we have a table in the clubhouse), went in the pool (where the water level was significantly higher than usual), and watched TV.  Our stuff hasn’t arrived yet but we managed to entertain ourselves quite well.
