Twined pots

I took the day off work today to attend a workshop to learn how to make a ‘twined’ pot. Basically, it’s using a type of basketry technique and softer materials than traditional northern hemisphere reed-based baskets, more common in African countries I believe.

This is a shot of the starting point, with clips to hold it all in place while you get going, and I’ll include an extra in a minute of the nearly finished pots from the whole class. Luckily the venue was only 20 minutes away from me, and with lots of coffee, tea, biscuits and a nice lunch outside in the warm sunshine today, it was a very relaxing day (although I did feel shattered by the end!). I’ve bought the materials to make another pot but not sure when I’ll have time or whether I’ll remember the techniques well enough, we’ll have to see!
